Description

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for directing and coordinating the facility maintenance operation to meet company objectives for safety, quality, production/delivery and cost. Participate in the overall strategic design and direction of the maintenance processes, systems and related programs. Oversee the training of employees, setting of departmental production and performance goals, organization of work, and maintenance of a productive and motivational climate.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the engineering involvement in the plant operations, equipment, facilities, utilities, and grounds.
  • Prepare documentation for management's approval of capital expenditures to complete the required installations and upon completion, conclude satisfactory work and final closings.
  • Responsible for Maintenance and Facility AOP (Annual Operating Plan)
  • Provide leadership to maintenance personnel. Plan, schedule and coordinate. Maintenance Department's services and expertise with operating departments and facilities. Continually monitor maintenance personnel performance and utility consumption to insure the production of quality production and highest efficiency of operating department's equipment and processes.
  • Monitor and implement Safety Program within the department based on company policies. Provide safety corrections on equipment as deemed necessary.
  • Coordinate environmental concerns following established Guidelines.
  • Perform complex research and analysis and ensures compliance with established manufacturing principles regarding equipment.
  • Provide engineering expertise for Maintenance Facilities and continuous improvement projects.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot any process and operating problem and provide completed resolution by internal manpower and/or materials or by outside sources (Upon Approval)
  • Continually improve operating equipment and facilities at minimum cost and maximum performance.
  • Responsible for the procurement and inventory of spare parts for continuous equipment operations with minimum associated downtime.
  • Build, maintain and continually upgrade an effective Preventive/Predictive Maintenance. Program for all plant equipment and facilities.
  • Maintain Computerized Maintenance Management System (MMS or ERP) to analyze costs, problem areas, equipment replacements and justifications as well as machine history.
    • Develop objectives and standards of performance for projects within the Maintenance department required to meet departmental, divisional and corporate goals and objectives
    • Manage assets to execute an effective preventive maintenance program, to minimize unscheduled down time, and ensure that equipment is ready to run when scheduled.
    • Monitor and report maintenance key indicators to top management and make recommendations for necessary changes to drive improvement.
    • Maintain and control departmental budget and ensure all work completed is within budget parameters and time constraints.
    • Utilize industry approved methodologies to ensure proper inventory control of MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Operations) parts and supplies
  • Convey knowledge and understanding of engineering to maintenance personnel in developing and implementing plant projects/improvements.
  • Engineering skills and knowledge of engineering concepts, procedures, and methods to direct craftspeople to maintain machines, systems and facilities
  • Responsible for project quotes, design, and management.
  • Consult with Internal and external partners regarding desirable modifications of existing equipment and facilities and the possible replacement of existing equipment, which will improve operations and reduce maintenance costs
  • Keep and update equipment and facility records and procedures such as equipment manuals, schematic drawings, and facility drawings
  • Assure that production equipment can produce within the specifications and tolerances established by the equipment manufacturer
  • Have a working knowledge of OSHA, GFSI, QF, USDA and FDA
    • Adhere to all FDA and USDA, Local Authority and GFSI food safety and quality policies and procedures, reporting any nonconformity
    • Adhere to all OSHA safety policies and procedures, reporting any nonconformity
    • Adhere to all GMP policies and procedures, reporting any nonconformity
  • Understand and implement problem solving techniques, motivational techniques, long range planning, and employee & labor relations
  • On-Call availability 24/7
  • In the event the Maintenance Supervisor is not available, this position will resume some of their duties.
  • Attend and participate in group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of plant equipment maintenance.
    • Observe safety regulations, wear all required safety equipment, encourage safe working practices, correct obvious hazards immediately or reports them to management.
    • Maintains progress report of work orders.
    • Aid in QA investigations on customer complaints where applicable.
    • Set up and maintain a Master Preventative Maintenance Schedule
    • Assure customer needs are met by executing all repairs etc. in a timely manner
    • Support the Emergency Evacuation Plan.
    • Support and maintain all management directives.
    • Other duties may be assigned as required
    • Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives (i.e., 5S, Kaizen, lean tools etc.)
  • Develop and maintain an effective department through proper selection, training and assignment of personnel capable of maintaining all equipment and facilities in a safe and efficient working condition

Qualifications: Preferred

  • Hands-on PLC programming and Servo Control experience.
  • Allen-Bradley PLC Software experience a plus.
  • Experience in Food Manufacturing and design/build project management.
  • Experience in driving continuous improvement, tracking documented results in achieving to both product and process cost reductions.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with high-speed automated packaging and processing equipment along with at least 5 years of progressive leadership experience supervising a team.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite (MS Excel, MS Project) and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills with the ability to plan, prioritize, organize, and carry out work with minimal supervision.
  • Experience applying maintenance principles, practices, concepts, and options, related to maintenance planning, scheduling, coordination and optimization.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgement in dealing with technical matters.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical and/or Industrial Engineering Preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years previous supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in facility engineering (i.e. – Project Engineer, Project Coordinator, etc.).
  • Experience in mechanical equipment design/improvements a plus
